1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Chessplain ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Chessplain is a chess analysis platform that uses AI and chess engines to help users understand and improve their chess games. The Service includes:

  • Chess game analysis using Stockfish engine
  • AI-powered explanations of chess positions
  • Position evaluation and move classification
  • Deep dive analysis for critical positions
  • Game history and storage (coming soon)

3. User Accounts

3.1 Registration

You must create an account to use the Service. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Maintain the security of your account
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
  • Be responsible for all activities under your account

3.2 Account Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Chessplain. Users under 18 must have parental consent.

4. Subscription Plans

4.1 Free Tier

The free tier includes:

  • 5 game analyses per day
  • Unlimited Stockfish move classification
  • 3 AI deep dive analyses per day (GLM 4.6 model)
  • Standard Stockfish analysis depth (depth 18)

4.2 Premium Tier

The premium subscription ($9.99/month or $99.99/year) includes:

  • Unlimited game analyses
  • Unlimited quick AI explanations (Llama 4 model, auto-loaded)
  • Unlimited deep dive analyses (Gemini 2.5 Pro model)
  • Enhanced Stockfish analysis depth (depth 22)
  • Auto-load AI explanations for critical positions

4.3 Free Trial

New users may receive a 7-day free trial of the Premium tier. You will not be charged until the trial period ends. You can cancel at any time during the trial without being charged.

5. Billing and Payment

5.1 Payment Processing

Payments are processed through Stripe. By subscribing, you agree to Stripe's terms and authorize us to charge your payment method.

5.2 Automatic Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless canceled. You will be charged at the beginning of each period.

5.3 Cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time through your profile page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds for partial periods.

5.4 Price Changes

We may change subscription prices with 30 days notice. Changes apply to subsequent billing periods after notice.

6. Refund Policy

Due to the nature of our service, we generally do not provide refunds. However, we may offer refunds at our discretion for:

  • Technical issues preventing service use
  • Billing errors
  • Fraudulent charges

To request a refund, contact us at support@getchessplain.com within 7 days of the charge.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Abuse, harass, or harm other users
  • Violate any laws or regulations
  • Attempt to circumvent usage limits or payment systems
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or hack the Service
  • Use automated tools to scrape or abuse the Service
  • Share your account with others
  • Upload malicious content or viruses
  • Resell or redistribute the Service

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 Our Content

All content, features, and functionality of Chessplain are owned by us and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

8.2 Your Content

You retain ownership of chess games you upload. By uploading, you grant us a license to store, process, and analyze your games to provide the Service.

8.3 AI-Generated Content

AI-generated explanations are created for you and stored in your account. You may use them for personal, non-commercial purposes.

9. Service Availability

We strive to provide reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable due to:

  • Scheduled maintenance
  • Technical issues
  • Third-party service outages
  • Force majeure events

We are not liable for any losses resulting from Service unavailability.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We do not guarantee that analyses are error-free or that using the Service will improve your chess skills.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for:

  • Violation of these Terms
  • Fraudulent or illegal activity
  • Abusive behavior
  • Non-payment

You may delete your account at any time through your profile settings.

13. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes via email or Service notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes shall be resolved in accordance with those laws.
